AES #107 in New York City, September 24-27, 1999 -- The Sonorus booth was the talk of the show! Curious conventioneers were crowding the booth to get a first look at STUDI/O running in the BeOS operating system. The software front end was a beta version of Cubase Nuendo playing back a multi-track arrangement in 5.1 surround. Sonorus also introduced the Modular/8 Converter System and had a MEDI/O beta board on display with it's "dreadlock" cable-whip. |
|
Did someone say SWAG??? Sonorus gave away 2, 5, & 10 meter optical cables as well as raffling off two STUDI/O boards. (see our happy winners below)

Dariusz Kanarek from the University of New Haven CT, our first lucky winner accepting the STUDI/O from Sonorus Director of Sales and Marketing John Bastianelli at the AES show on Saturday afternoon. |
Our second winner was Michael Wojewoda, a Music Producer from Toronto Ontario. He stopped by after the show to retrieve his prize. |
The highlight, however, was Sonorus' Saturday night exclusive Listening Party held at the world class Mirror Image Recorders. We compared the AUDI/O AD/24 & DA/24 to an analog 2-inch Studer 24-track tape recorder, all run thorough an SSL console in perfect sync. Critical listeners were completely blown away by the sound quality of the converters. Many people picked the converters over the analog tape machine in the blindfold tests. Even the most cynical listener decided the converters "at least didn't mess up the sound." Hey, for some people, that's saying alot!

Studio owner/engineer Tommy Uzzo explains to listeners how he set up the monitor mix. |
In Mirror Image's "B" room Sonorus demonstrated a post-oriented DAW set up for surround-sound editorial. Six 24bit - 96K audio channels were played through our new Modular/8.
The event was a huge success -- how can you go wrong with good sound, good people, and good wine?!
